The BEST Costco Mediterranean Diet Shopping List: 21 Essential Items (Free PDF)

Check out this Costco Mediterranean Diet Shopping List before you head to the warehouse.

The Mediterranean diet, voted the best by U.S. News & World Report several years in a row, is a popular choice for those seeking a healthier lifestyle. While diet is in the name, it’s more of a lifestyle than what many of us would consider a way to lose weight and get fit. Based on the ways of those living near the Mediterranean Sea, this option focuses on whole foods, slower eating, and enjoying meals with loved ones.

While images of relaxed meals by the water sound lovely, they starkly contrast how many of us live. But we can bring some of the lifestyle to our own with a trip to Costco.

    I KNOW!

You likely think I’ve gone mad as the hustle and bustle of the warehouse is far from the Med. However, Costco has excellent Mediterranean diet foods, from snacks to dinners and beyond. We’ve got the best Mediterranean Diet Costco shopping list.

Costco Mediterranean Diet Shopping List: 21 Great Products

Here are 21 excellent Costco finds that are perfect for following the Mediterranean diet. We’ve also created a downloadable PDF for you to print and bring with you to the warehouse.

Fruits, vegetables, and nuts are not included on this list. While they are a huge part of the diet, Costco portions are so large that they often spoil before most people can use them, so we recommend buying them in smaller quantities (at least to start).

    Olive Oil

Healthy fats are okay in the Mediterranean diet; olive oil is the basis of almost every salad dressing and is excellent for sauteing. While olive oil prices have exploded recently due to European drought conditions, Kirkland Signature Organic Olive Oil has remained at an exceptional price.

    Kalamata Olives

Whether as a snack, with pasta, or in a salad, briny olives pack a flavorful punch in a small form. Named after a city in Greece, Kalamata Olives are an excellent addition to your Costco Mediterranean diet shopping list. Don’t let the large container fool you; they last for a long time in the refrigerator.

    Castelvetrano Olives

Like their briny cousin, Kalamatas, Castelvetrano olives pack a flavorful punch, but these green olives have less sodium and a milder flavor. They are great in salads, on charcuterie boards, and in pasta.

    Feta Cheese

Unprocessed cheeses like feta are great options on the Mediterranean diet. Plus, they are versatile. You can add them to omelets, salads, and pasta or bake them and use them as a dip. The warehouse has several options, but our favorite is President Feta. It’s pre-crumbled.

Taylor Farms Mediterranean Crunch Salad Kit

We’ve tried every Costco Salad Kit, and while some don’t fit the bill of this lifestyle, Taylor Farms Mediterranean Crunch Salad does. It comprises several types of lettuce, including broccoli, red cabbage, cauliflower, flatbread, and feta. Add some chopped chicken or chickpeas for the easiest weekday lunch or dinner.

    Shrimp

Lean proteins are always welcome in the Mediterranean diet, and shrimp fits the bill. We’ve done a deep dive into all the shrimp options in the warehouse and love Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp. They are the perfect size for salads, skewers, and more.

    Chicken Tenderloins

If you want a lean protein, crowd-pleasing chicken breast fits the bill. We love Kirkland Signature Chicken Tenderloins in vacuum-sealed packages. The smaller size helps avoid woody chicken or white striping issues, while the packaging helps avoid freezer burn and makes for easy defrosting.

    Ground Turkey

The Mediterranean diet doesn’t allow much red meat, but ground turkey is an excellent substitute. We love the Butterball vacuum-sealed packages. The main drawback of these is the sizing. One pound is typically the amount most recipes require and the proper amount for our family of four. These pouches contain 1.7 lbs. While that works well for turkey meatloaf, it’s too much for other meals, so we take them out of the pouches and vacuum seal them ourselves before freezing.

    Chickpeas

Chickpeas are an easy way to add protein to salads, but despite that convenience, there’s another way we love to use these protein powerhouses. Roasted chickpeas are our go-to snack. They are addictive and easy to change with lots of spice blends.

    Quinoa

Tucked away in the pantry section of the warehouse, Kirkland Signature Quinoa is an excellent buy that many are missing. This whole grain adds fiber and protein to salads and dinners. We also love to use leftovers to make muffins for on-the-go breakfasts.

    Greek Yogurt

This dairy product is popular in the Mediterranean diet thanks to its high protein content and thick texture. Greek yogurt has many uses, from breakfast yogurt parfaits to creamy salad dressings. We love Kirkland Signature Greek Yogurt. It is significantly cheaper than grocery store brands, and the plain nature provides plenty of flavor options.

    Tzatziki

We’ve tried every Costco Dip, and Hannah Tzatki remains one of our favorites. It’s excellent with vegetables as an appetizer but shines as a topping on grilled chicken, shrimp, and falafel.

    Chicken Thighs

If you are short on time but want a great Mediterranean diet dinner, a sheet-pan meal is for you. Place chicken thighs and chopped vegetables on a baking sheet and roast at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes. Dinner is ready. Thighs are perfect for roasting and grilling since the darker meat won’t dry out.

    Brown Rice

Whole grains are the basis of many Mediterranean meals, and brown rice is an excellent source of fiber.

    Cauliflower Rice

Cauliflower rice is an easy way to add more vegetables to your diet, a staple of the Mediterranean diet. We reviewed this product last year, and it’s been in and out of the warehouse since, so grab it when you see it.

    Canned Tuna

Tinned fish contains Omega-3s and makes excellent lunch options. The warehouse has many canned tuna options; we’ve waded through them all to find the best.

    Falafel

Finding family-friendly vegetarian options can be tricky. We’ve found a convenient pre-cooked option: Hannah Organic Falafel, an excellent appetizer or weeknight dinner.

    Gyro Slices

Daphne’s Beef and Lamb Gyros are a great ready-to-eat option for grain bowls or on top of pitas for an easy, breezy Mediterranean dinner.

    Chicken Patties

The refrigerated section has a rotating stock of flavorful Amylu Chicken Patties. We’ve tried a bunch and liked them all! We enjoy cooking a batch at the beginning of the week and placing it on top of weekday lunch salads. They also make a great hamburger alternative for summer BBQs.

    Hummus

Besides being a great veggie dip, Kirkland Signature Hummus makes a great addition to grain bowls. We love the large containers, which never go to waste, but the small containers in and out of the warehouse are excellent for school and work lunches.

    Chia Seeds

Costco has some great breakfast options, and chia seeds are the basis of one great Mediterranean Diet morning meal: chia seed pudding. This versatile meal is one you‘ve yet to try. We also love these fiber-rich seeds sprinkled on salads.

    Frozen Salmon

Part of the Mediterranean Diet is to eat fish several times a week. Having frozen fish on hand makes this much easier. Salmon is an excellent addition to our Costco Mediterranean Diet Shopping List due to its wonderful price and versatility.
