Costco is known for offering a wide range of products in bulk, and its food selection is no exception. One brand that has become a favorite among health-conscious shoppers is Kodiak Cakes. These whole-grain, protein-packed pancake, and waffle mixes have gained popularity for their delicious taste and nutritional value.

In this article, we’ll dive into the world of Kodiak Cakes at Costco, exploring their nutrition, flavor, and why they’ve become a breakfast staple in many households.

Are Kodiak Cakes Healthier? Costco Kodiak Cakes Nutrition

Everyone has different health goals, so it’s important to determine what’s healthy for you. Kodiak Cakes have more protein than traditional pancakes, but that’s not the only element of healthy food.

According to Nutitionix, one large pancake from a mix will provide approximately 7.8 grams of fat, 5.1 grams of protein, and 0 fiber.

    Kodiak Cakes at Costco Review

We did not have high hopes for these pancakes, but we were wrong. They have the same consistency and texture as regular pancakes. My kids even ate them!

Now here’s the thing. I’m not sure they are going to replace your typical Sunday pancakes. They taste fine, slightly less sweet than regular pancakes. If you want a protein-packed meal to start your day, these are for you.

Sometimes whole grains cause a gritty texture; these Kodiak Cakes at Costco aren’t like that. Using milk and an egg increases the flavor and makes them less dense. If you have the ingredients and aren’t allergic, it’s worth using them instead of water.

They are easy to prepare, so I can see making them on a weekday morning. I don’t think we will purchase them again, though. We prefer eggs, meats, and other proteins.

How To Use Costco Kodiak Pancake Mix

Think of the Costco Kodiak Pancake Mix as the starting point for a recipe. Besides mixing in milk, water, and or eggs to make pancakes or waffles, try something new!

Here are a few ideas for how to use Costco Kodiak Pancake Mix:

    1. Add some pumpkin to the mix for a fall treat.
    2. Add some almond or vanilla extract to amp up the flavor.
    3. Add other veggies like pureed carrots, sweet potato, or sauteed spinach.
    4. Make it dessert with Pass Me A Spoon’s Pancake Mix Brownies.
    5. Create a protein-packed snack with I Heart Naptime’s recipe for protein balls.
    6. Use them as a base for delicious Blueberry Protein Muffins.

Is It Better To Use Milk Or Water In Kodiak Cakes?

We like milk better than water in Kodiak Cakes or any boxed pancake mix, for that matter. The fat in milk adds richness to the final result that plain H20 lacks.

We recommend equal milk substitution for water, although you can use any ratio you wish. More milk means thinner batter and resulting pancakes.

How Do Kodiak Cakes At Costco Have So Much Protein?

Unlike traditional pancakes, Kodiak flapjacks contain high amounts of protein. Three four-inch pancakes have 14 grams of protein versus 8 grams from standard recipes. Ingredients make all the difference here.

Kodiak cake mix includes several high protein elements, including whole grain wheat flour, whole grain oat flour, wheat protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, and milk protein concentrate.

A high-protein diet benefits your body by reducing hunger, helping your bones, reducing cravings, boosting metabolism, and much more.

How Many Pancakes Does 1 Cup of Kodiak Cake Make

How Many Pancakes Does 1 Cup of Kodiak Cake Make

Results may vary, but on average, one cup of batter makes six four-inch pancakes. Remember that thicker batter produces fewer pancakes while a thinner one creates more. The company encourages consumers to find a ratio of mix to liquid that makes the desired consistency.

When we made them with water, the batter was thicker and yielded 3 pancakes, while our version with milk and eggs gave us four.

An easy way to get uniformly sized pancakes is to use a turkey baster. Press the plunger to pick up the batter and release it onto the hot griddle. Use one with the measurements on the outside; you will have perfectly sized flapjacks every time.

What Are The Ingredients In Kodiak Pancakes At Costco?

The high protein content comes from the ingredients in Kodiak Pancakes sold at Costco. While the list isn’t extensive, several provide high amounts of this powerful nutrient.

Kodiak Flapjack and Waffle Mix From Costco Ingredients:

100% Whole Grain Wheat Flour, 100% Whole Grain Oat Flour, Wheat Protein Isolate, Brown Sugar, Whey Protein Concentrate, Milk Protein Concentrate, Buttermilk, Leavening (Monocalcium Phosphate, Baking Soda), Sea Salt.

When you make the mix, add water, milk, and eggs.

There’s an allergy notice on the package that the item contains milk and eggs, and due to processing on shared equipment, it contains trace amounts of egg, soy, and tree nuts.

Does Costco Sell Kodiak Frozen Waffles?

As of April 2023, Costco does NOT sell Kodiak Frozen Waffles. We only found their Power Cakes Flapjacks and Waffle Mix in the pantry section of the store. We contacted the company, and they confirmed that the waffles are not sold at Costco.

If you want Kodiak waffles, you can make some using the mix and freeze them. Place cooked waffles in a freezer bag. They should maintain quality and freshness for 3-4 months. We love to use a standard toaster for reheating. Since both sides are heated simultaneously, the quick cooking time makes it perfect for a weekday breakfast.

    Pin this for later.
