Avocado Spray At Costco — Price

Costco sells Chosen Avocado Oil Spray for $12.99 for two 13.5-ounce cans. This works out to cost 48 cents per ounce. Yet again, this is significantly cheaper than the grocery store.

Our local grocer carries a six-ounce can of Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Spray for $9.29 or $1.54 per ounce. That’s more than three times Costco’s price! If you are looking for this product, buy it at the warehouse.

Avocado oil lasts not as long as olive oil, but it’s good for 6-8 months. To ensure freshness, store the cans in a cool, dry place.

Avocado Spray At Costco — Calories

According to the package, there are zero calories in a quick quarter-second Costco Avocado Oil Spray. But who the heck does a quick spray? I certainly don’t. In reality, the product DOES contain calories. Here’s how.

The FDA allows companies to round the numbers on food labels to simplify things. If a serving has less than five calories, it’s rounded down to zero. Food manufacturers sometimes use this guideline to their advantage.

The length of an average spray of cooking oil is four seconds. A quarter-second spray provides 1/20 of a tsp of oil. And the average spray provides .8 tsp.

Based on the information that one teaspoon of af avocado oil contains 40 calories, the average four-second spray, producing .8 tsp oil, has an estimated 32 calories.

What Is Avocado Spray At Costco Good For?

Avocado oil has a neutral flavor and a high smoke point. These two characteristics make avocado spray good for numerous cooking tasks, from grilling, baking, sauteing, and more.

Unlike olive oil which starts to break down at 410 degrees, avocado oil can handle heat up to 500 degrees. Avocado oil is excellent for high-heat cooking like roasting or grilling. Spray some on the grill grates to prevent meat, fish, or vegetables from sticking, or spray on vegetables you are roasting to help them crisp and hold any seasoning.

Since the oil has a neutral flavor, it won’t change the flavor of any dishes. This is perfect for baked goods. Use it instead of other cooking sprays to prevent baked goods from sticking to the pan.

Other ways we use avocado oil spray at Costco.

    • Spray on measuring spoons and cups to stop maple syrup and honey from sticking.
    • Use on cups when poaching eggs.

Is Avocado Oil Spray Better For You?

There isn’t a ton of information available on the benefits of Avocado Oil. Still, we do know that “avocado oil is a heart-healthy oil, high in oleic acid, which is an unsaturated fat. It contains vitamin E and also helps the body absorb other fat-soluble vitamins,” according to WebMD.

This oil is high in monosaturated fat, and this lipid has been linked to lowering bad cholesterol and raising the good.

Oleic acid, another abundant element in avocado oil, has been shown to lower blood pressure.

Is Avocado Oil Spray Better Than Olive Oil Spray?

Unlike most olive oils, avocado oil spray has a neutral taste and a high smoke point. These two properties make this cooking spray from Costco very useful in the kitchen.

Since avocado oil has a higher smoke point, it works well for high-heat cooking. This includes roasting and grilling. Once the oil reaches its smoke point, the beneficial elements break down. This happens around 410 degrees for olive oil, while avocado oil can reach 500 degrees safely.

Both have lovely heart-healthy ingredients and numerous health benefits, but the flavor is a distinct difference. The less refined olive oils have an excellent, grassy taste. This is great for making salad dressings and drizzling on foods, but sometimes you want the health benefits and not the flavor.

Avocado oil has a neutral flavor, making it an excellent baking choice.

Is There A Downside To Avocado Oil?

The biggest downside to avocado oil is the price. Avocados are more expensive to produce than olives and other cooking oils; therefore, they cost a bit more. Some estimates have avocado oil costing over 50% more than the same size and quality olive oil.

Does Avocado Oil Spray Need To Be Refrigerated?

No avocado oil spray does not need to be refrigerated. It’s best stored in a cool, dry place but does NOT need refrigeration.

Since the oil contains over 50% monosaturated fat, it is less prone to oxidation. Also, most products come in green containers to protect from light.

If properly stored, avocado oil should last for six-eight months.
